Alright, truckers are the scum of the earth...and toll booth people are the green puke frosting on top. Check it out!!!! Today, 6/21/00, my girlfriend was bringing me to work at approximately 8:00 in the morning. As we pulled up to the booth she extended her arm and with a smile prepared to give the toll woman 50 cents. Suddenly i felt a jolt in the car and we were shoved forward about 4-5 feet. I said "what the --explitive deleted--..." addie said "what the --explitive deleted--..." and the toll woman was looking behind us with her arms up mouthing what the --explitive deleted-- and shaking her head. I turned around to see what had happened, and to my surprize i couldn't see out of the back window...why you ask. Because of the big --explitive deleted-- --explitive deleted-- 18 wheeler that was 2 inches from the back window...let alone the whole back of the car. He was right on our --explitive deleted--...most likely because he had just shoved us a couple feet. I'll tell you its --explitive deleted-- wierd to see a big --explitive deleted-- bumper infront of your face when you expect just to see the sky and the road out of the back window. So i proceeded to roll down my window and look at the driver of the truck...he looked at me and i said what the --explitive deleted--. So then I told addie to pull over on the side of the road in the rest stop. Not more than 20 feet from where we got hit. Plain view...no trees no nothin...he saw us go over there. I got out of the car...and he proceeded to drive away. Addie of course was in tears by now because aside from the obvious shock of the whole incident, a metel part of her back rest on the seat rammed up into her back and gave her a nice bruise. As he drove away...I put my arms up as if to say what the --explitive deleted--! and then of course said "what the --explitive deleted--..." and he looked right at me until he was out of eye contact. My father then arrived at this point, and he went over to the woman in the toll booth to see if she had goten the liscence plate number or any other useful information. She told my father that she had not seen anything and that the truck had lots of space between us and him. Luckily there was no damage done to addies car and unfortunately i was unable to get his plate number. All I wanted was the curtesy for him to pull over and just make sure that we were ok. And from the --explitive deleted-- at the toll booth well she can take her trailer trash --explitive deleted-- and go jump in front of a truck! I pray that the almighty will allow the truck driver to --explitive sentence deleted-- and i will smile when i see him --explitive sentence deleted-- of the 18 wheeler he's obviously not able to handle, with --explitive sentence deleted--. I will feel fulfilled when --explitive sentence deleted--. As he asks for my help...--explitive sentence deleted-- ! I've heard many stories and seen many first hand incidents about pain in the --explitive deleted--, selfish, road hogging truck drivers. These --explitive deleted-- holes are a menace to drivers on the road. They act like they own these damn roads that OUR taxes pay for...If the roads were even owned by anyone...it SURE AS --explitive deleted-- is not them. Its like a damn cult man....they all stick up for each other...they're allowed to speed more than us provided its not a "rediculous" increase. They're very rude. They cut people off, and they pass in the third lane which is illegal for 18 wheelers. Its too bad, because as with everything...there are always your exceptions to the rule...but for the purpose of this "complaint" Im afraid im gonna have to permanently group every truck driver into the selfish, road hogging, cutting off, --explitive deleted-- hole cult pile. I used to try and understand how hard their job was and when they used to pass me I'd slow down and flash my high beams (as i've seen other truckers do) to let them know they were clear of my car...small things like that. WELL today was the last straw. As i have said I hope he --explitive sentence deleted-- , and as for the --explitive deleted-- in the toll booth....I hope she gets --explitive sentence deleted-- ...--explitive sentence deleted-- . --explitive sentence deleted-- . The worst part is --BIG explitive sentence deleted-- !!!!! ---explitive deleted-- ---T-R-U-C-K-E-R-S- |

Don't you just hat the way the so-called civilised society has made our anger such an ineffectual tool. It no longer saves our species, it gets us shot or turns us into demented psychopaths full of rage. Things need to change so that we can express anger at the people that commit acts so inconsiderate and rude, and in many cases so abhorrent, or society will not improve. If the law stated that you can dent the fender or black the eye of someone who blatantly and arrogantly cuts you off, there'd be a lot less people doing it. But thats my 2 cents. |

Hey Stu...this is my favorite way to fuck with 18 wheelers...When I see an 18 wheeler,at night, i flick on my high beams and haphazardly increase speed as to quickly assume tailgating position that troopers so deeply cherish. The truck driver will then slow down and follow EVERY driving rule known to man(especially Canadian drivers). This will continue until you pass and let the poor truck driver in on the secret...ps..DO NOT do if there happens to be another 18 Wheeler in the vicinity. :) -->Jevon |

Hear hear. I agree. The fuckers in the beeeemers with the cellphone in one hand and the palm pilot in the other are way more of a menace to we the people than all the trucks. They, with their yuppie-invincibile-always-right attitudes, are gonna get us all killed. I'm suprised that truck drivers don't take every opprotunity to squeeze these road raging scrawny asswipes into the concrete embankments or off the overpasses. That they don't demonstrates extreme restraint on their parts.
And if you've all missed my point so far... let me spell it out:
Specifically: This is ridiculous. Enough of the stupidass stereotypical bullshit. What's the problem, are y'all threatened by the fact that someone has bigger tires than you... that someone has a bigger engine than you? Conversely, are y'all threatened by the fact that you are outnumbered by all the little fourwheelers... or are you intoxicated with your lovely feeling of physical power? Without trucks we'd have no shipping, without people there'd be no need for shipping. And so both sides of this rant are entirely insipid and inane. You shovel food into each other's mouths - why do you bite the hand that feeds?
Generally: What's this world's obsession with groups? What makes you all think that certain people are absolutely identical just because they belong to one of your ill-concieved groups? These oh so wonderful groups that everyone lives and dies for are founded on the basest of emotions, the most obvious of supercficial characteristics, and the most philisine conceptions of the world. It is fucking narrow minded so get the fuck over it. Why does eveyrone miss the forest for the trees? You have no common enemy, so you split yourselves into groups and go for each other's throats. The world is happy and peaceful and y'all must divide and conquor even if you conquor yourselves. Somebody's doing thier job keeping us in our respective places. Our respective classes. ...And the world was orderly and all was good. With these mindsets, none of us are ever gonna ascend. Thank you people for this world.

While groups are a sad fact, they are a fact and are completely necessary for human happiness and functioning. We do not have the mental capacity to approach every situation, and in doing so, every person with a fresh new slate and try to get to know them as who they really might be, assuming that people actually have a 'who they are' as opposed to a who they are in this situation. It would slow us down, and simply confuse us. It might have worked before cars (and trucks) but we met less people then, and didn't have to deal with the influx of information that currently assails us. And as for without people there would be no truckers, thats a paradox, and a circular argument, to use it adds to confusion, and without truckers there might be an efficient rail system, or cheaper fuel for planes, one could posit the suggestion that the political power of the road transport industry is what (at least in Australia), prevents the tired driving laws from being changed, and also prevents the development of another more efficient and safer method of freight transport. |

Now I must say. Yes....I am a 4 wheeler. I have a pretty nice jeep, and I try to use that 4 wheel drive as often as I can. But I also have to say that im not a big fan of all those bastids who have their new SUV's and think that just because they have 4 wheel drive, they can drive like they own the road....especially in those famed Maine snow storms. I mean c'mon....when you hit black ice, or you do finally lose your traction in the slush and start careening off down the road in a deathly set of 360's, or you have to slam on those breaks because you happened to visually miss the obstacle in the road ahead while you were talking on your "cellie" .....how is your 4 wheel drive really gonna make you "king of the road?" You know what I guess my problem is....and though it is rather concieted, but hey look at me, I can at least admit it. I dont trust ANYONE driving but me. Whether its my car they're driving or their own. Sure some people say I drive like an old lady....and mind you thats because I go 70 in 65 zones. But I have a big top heavy box on wheels that gives lots of wind resistance, and yes I do tend to stay in the slow lane in that event. I guess what it also is, is the fact that when I was in high school, and fresh out of....I got speed warnings, and speed tickets, and an accident with a nice older woman in a buick all under my belt. Thank goodness it was only incidents as simple and small as those, that learned me respect for the road and the ton(s) of metal on four (or more) rubber wheels that we all drive. I guess its just that in this world....we dont really have the option to just simply stay off the road. In todays society we just can't do that so we are obviously forced to share it. Im just sick and tired of every day seeing that bitch from the on-ramp who has a yield sign, but yet misses my front bumper by inches because she feels that if she's staring straight ahead and continuing or increasing her current speed, she therefor has the right of way. Or how about the guy in the beamer, or the vet, or the cherokee that drives on the ass of the poor old war vet, flashing his lights and honking his horn, because the poor guy is going 65 in a 65 and happens to be in the MIDDLE lane. On the way to boston weeks ago.....do you even know what I saw???? A man in probably his mid to late thirties, driving his car with his knee, while both hands, yes BOTH hands were holding his newspaper, and yeah...he really was reading it, fully opened up and everything. Flash your lights and honk your horn at that fuckin guy!!! NO SHIT. And dont even get me started on cabbies....especially those in Boston type areas. There are many ass holes on the road....and I hate em all. My middle finger goes up AT LEAST twice every single day. Now c'mon. As is with EVERYTHING....there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule. So when most people say they hate some certain group, or all of some certain group does something specific. 99.9999% of the time its not to be literally interpreted. So stop talking like that? Too bad, everysingle one of us does it, even you. Chances are most of us even have someone we know who is in that group we are exploiting, and we probably dont include them with those other people in our mind....because we know them as a person. I have friends who were cabbies, I have friends who are truckers, and almost everyone I know drives a car, some of them, however, shouldn't in my opinion....but thats niether here nor there. The fact is....in talking to these truckers and cabbies (just to be specific to the argument at hand) that I do personally know...I've heard some of the inside stories, I've heard how some of the "insides" work. And first hand....we all experience them at some point or another on the road. Despite all this, and despite my feelings on the day of my first entry with this topic....I do still try to do my part to make the road an easier place for everyone when I can. I do flash my high beams to the trucker infront of me to let him know he's safe to pass....and more often than not they politely flash their tail lights back in a "thank you." I watch behind me for the guy speeding up 30 miles faster than he should be and get out of the lane as soon as I can for him to pass easier, and avoid any negative circumstances. I truly do hate to sound as if im tooting my own horn...but truly if you want to see first hand how disgusting people in our society can be to one another...look around you on the road, just dont hit the car infront of you while you do... |

Well, if any perspective can be added to this sodden heap, here's mine. I live in Northern Virginia, about 40 miles outside of DC, in one of the fastest growing counties in the land. Here we deal with a multitude of problems. For example our traffic problems are second only to LA. I live in a constant rush hour. Land is over priced here, too. 10 acres with a house is worth minimum one million bucks. Lots of blue collar workers live in West Virginia. There's only one main highway artery from WVA into DC, and I happen to live off of that. So every morning I wait for at leas twenty minutes until some nice WVAian lets me pull into traffic.
People here do not follow the rules of the road. They neglect to use blinkers, run red lights, and generally do whatever it takes to rush rush rush to the next big thing.
It's a really disgusting mindset. Driving here absolutely sucks. Truckers aren't the worst here. It's a strange mix of stay at home suburbanites in their luxury SUV's that hog the middle of the road, or the massive tons of horse trailer that come barreling at you with the oversized side mirrors that look like they could take off your head. Then we have the lovely "diplomat plates" cars that do whatever the hell they please. |

My Mom's boyfriend is a truck driver. Not only are truck drivers required to be drug free (as most ordinary drivers ARE NOT -- 1 in 6 people being drunk on the road during the night time), they have a hell of a lot more work to do than we do. Shifting some 18 gears, trying to keep track of a boxcar on the back of their rig...waiting for assholes to let them over becuase they don't want to get stuck behind a semi-truck. How many times have you seen truck drivers shaving, or doing their make-up, or friggin reading a newspaper, while they were driving. There are asshole truck drivers, granted, but for the most part they are more friendly and gracious (and, in all fairness, are paid to be), than anyone else on the road. The truck driver that rammed you in the ass was probably concerned about his career on the line, granted he should have stopped and asked if you were okay...but don't slight the work of truck drivers because you have been hit by ONE. --> Jamie |

Truck drivers have to be drug free just like the rest of us. We all have to be drug free, 'least thats what the law says im pretty sure. I got more than just one truck story too, granted I got more than one "car driver" story also, thats why I think most MA drivers are dicks too. Alot of em I know will agree with that statement as well. Plus, a bunch o yuppies have their heads up their ass too, I seen it! But guess what, I have an ass hole story about myself too!!!! :oO :oO :oO :oO But I also learned from mine. And now Im the bestest most considerate driver the road has ever seen with its non existent eyes. So y'all put that in yer damn pipes and smoke it. And while im at it......here. Let me tell you another lil story. Goes a lil somn like this...
Johnny was a good lad. Sweet and generous, the kindest of them all. He always loved to go picking the poppies by the she-shore. His favorite food was ice cream. One day Johnnys mumma says "Johnny, would you be a wuv'ly widdle boy and go git mumma some of dose widdle teenie pea pods?" Well Johnny would never ever want to disappoint his mumma, so johnny gathered up his napsack to his back, and headed for the country. Upon reaching the country-side, johnny felt fatigued. He sat down, wiped the sweat from his brow and sighed...

Their is no reason any double standards should be created for truckers just because they ship crap around. And personally I like to try and support my local economy. Not the shit they send over from Japan or even Canada for that matter. If truck drivers really want to do us a favor make us feel safer on the road. --Peace-- |

Second, if you've got a bad attitude about truckers, you obviously don't know one.. Everyone here that is (or was) a trucker or knows one has a different attitude about us and shows at least some degree of respect for what we do.. That should tell you something.. Before you go on a rant about us, or do your silly little bright light pranks on us (we have brights too and I promise, they're brighter than your's) take time to get to know one or more of us.. I'm a hard working person. Not trash of any sort. I make good money and I've been in only one accident that wasn't my fault.
It is a fact that some bad people drive trucks but to catogorize all Commercial drivers as trash or whatever else we are called is unfair and unwarrented.
A comment was made about "paying taxes" that's interesting to bring up, I'll be happy to mention that America's highways were first constructed to move commercial goods from state to state. As the auto becoame more popular and affordable, more Americans took to the road in ever-increasing numbers. Traffic laws were put on the books to handle the surge in conjestion and fines were issued. The money collected was devided into three parts; City, County & state.
Trucking firms pay their fair share as well. The average cost (for six months) to update the licencing is about $2,000.00. This fee is without the cost of IFTA decals or any other required record.
On other issues, To drive wreckless in or around a semi is as foolish as putting a loaded gun to your head. I once had a motorist cut me off by ten feet (at 65mph) and slam on his brakes, my initial reaction was "hit the brakes" which I did but 'once' wasn't enough for this guy, he had to do it again. I didn't brake this time, he was able to move out of my path & onto the shoulder where he spun out in the sand. I pulled over about 1/4 mile up the road where a State Trooper was writing somebody a ticket. I advised him of the situation, after speaking to both parties the officer asked me if I'd like to press charges of assult, because he used his vehicle as a weapon attempting to make me lose control. I declined to press charges because the wife was in the car too crying. She was screaming at her husband what a stupid thing he did.
Putting hi-beams on when approaching trucks may be funny to some, it can also be dangerous and cause an accident. When a driver is hit with hi-beams he/she loses perception of distance as well as 'high aim' in steering' which causes the truck to move from side to side. This could mean "death" for an innocent family on the driver's left. Who would be at fault? the guy with the hi-beams because it is aginst the law to maintain hi-beams within 300 feet from behind any vehicle or 500 feet coming towards another vehicle.
Don't play games with big trucks, innocent people usually end up victoms. |

Some of you are really pathetic. Why don't you go and get an education about driving around trucks? You may learn a lot.
First of all, these guys (truckers) have to learn how to drive these trucks. They have to inspect the truck and all equipment before they can drive.... each and everytime they stop and go again. They have to be responsible for the load they haul. They have to work long hours( usually about 70 hours a week) for low pay. Most of them are gone from home for weeks at a time...not seeing their families. They haul everything....from little car parts (that you need to fix your car) to huge products that you don't even know the name of.
Truckers are among the few people that will actually stop at an accident and help....while cars just drive by...rubber necking to see what happened.
Truckers go to schools and take little kids for rides in their trucks just so kids will have fun and learn about the trucks.
Truckers have to take a lot of crap....from other vehicles (that like to shine their brights just to be a pain in the butt), from dispatchers (they are the ones that tell the driver where to load and drop off), from shippers and recievers, and from law enforcement (not the decent ones...the ones that feel the need to target trucks for no good reason.)
Truckers also have to know what the speed limits are for each state they go to (yes it is different for trucks than it is for cars in some states). They also have to know the laws about how long their truck and trailer can be for each state, also how much weight they can have on which roads. And, which bridges they can go over and under.
They also pay alot more for fuel than cars do and they pay alot more in tolls.
Truckers aren't in the industry to get rich....it doesn't happen.
You better thank your lucky stars the next time you use toilet paper to wipe your crappy butt....that a trucker brought it to the store for you to buy it.
Oh, and as for "using the great railways".....how do you suggest the stores get the products from the train to the store if the store is not sitting right next to the tracks?? And, how much are you gonna whine when a train has many roads blocked while loading and unloading the cargo??
As for the original post....IF the truck did indeed hit the car, then THAT trucker was in the wrong and should have stopped. This in no way should catagorize ALL truckers to be like this one.
Also, when you are kind enough to "tell" a trucker he/she can come over in the lane in front of you....do not flash the high beams.....do a quick 'turn them off and on again' with the lights.....this keeps from blinding the driver and can keep from causing an accident. Do not ride beside a truck's tires, nor beside the trailer. You may think you are just being a pain to the trucker, but in reality, you are being a hazard, as the driver may not be able to even see you there.
**Get educated on driving near trucks...the life you save may be your own*** |

Karen, thank you, your words were well-said.
Another thing I'd like to add is when passing a semi, don't ride in the shadow of the trailer, people with small children like to do this on hot days. Also if you're riding next to a semi and it blows a tire it has the same impact as two sticks of TNT. |

The only thing that is going on here is a universal lesson that can be sought throughout. Of course not all truckers are like the one that poor ol' Stew encountered on his trip with his girlfriend. Not all hippies are peaceful. Not every pothead is lazy. Not all drunks are hopeless. Stew may have initially said that truckers are the scum of the earth but I can understand that. He was caught up in the heat of the moment, but I am sure that if you asked him he wouldn't think that all truckers are the scum of the earth. You guys need to chill out. Understand that poor ol' Stew suffered a hard ship and for all you truckers, tell your trucker friends about these terrible misshapes and educate them as to how they should handle them. I think that that is all he was truly looking for is a change. Change is good. I learned from this how to communicate with a trucker when it is OK for him to merge in front of me. Truckers, I hope you learned that the high ways are not yours. They are not mine. They are not Stew's. They are every bodies. We can all use them together in harmony if we operate under simple courtesy laws. Be kind to your neighbor. Accept when you do something wrong and accept the consequences. Rock on with the PBR. And go see PHLUX!!! |

I drive a dump truck locally and I also remember when I get off work I'm one of those 4 wheelers too. I try my hardest to respect everyone on the road. But when People (CARS AND TRUCKS) start doing something stupid like cutting me off it's really hard to keep my sanity. I'm constantly dealing with down town traffic, people pulling out in front of me just to go a block down the road and then turn in front of me when there was no one behind me. To the ones that read this you need to keep in mind that us truck drivers (as well as you 4 wheelers) all have our breaking points. I had to get out of driving for about a year because an old lady pulled out right in front of me, and I grabbed another gear and floored it tring to hit her. That lady ran off the road when she saw me coming to keep me from hitting her. I never did let out of it. After I cooled down I got to thinking about that and it scared the hell out of me thinking that if she didn't see me coming, I could have killed that lady but alot of us don't think about the consequences until after it's too late. That's something that we all need to think about when we are out there and we are in a hurry. "Is pulling out in front of a truck really important enough to die for"?? And as for the headlight flashing, there are some drivers out there that will stop the truck and bust your headlights out for doing that too. It just all depends on what mood they are in, But I just slow down when they do it to me. Stuart I'm sorry you had a run in with a truck driver, I really am but I got to ask a question, Did your girl friend do anything to provoke him or did he just accidently hit her? |

Nah, he accidently hit her. At least thats my guess. At the time she had one of those 80's honda accords, thing struggled to hit 65 on the highway...in pretty rough shape (my 4x4 was in my garage being repaired). In the event she had pissed him off in some way it would have been because he felt she was going too slow in the slow lane on a four lane highway. Something that very well could happen, but I do think it was an accident.
I will go further in saying that my first few posts were quite brash, and that I feel I owe decent truck drivers an appology. I appologise for lumping you in with the cocks.
But the cocks are prevalent, and they drive trucks, and 4x4's, and beamers, and lexus', and hondas, and hyundais, and suzukis, and harleys, and crown vics, and fords, and chevrolets, and audis, and porsches, and lamborghinis, and Acuras, and Mazdas, and dodges, and ferraris, and Daewoos, and Oldsmobiles, and land rovers, and Mitsubishis, and eagles, and jeeps, and alfa romeos, and volkswagens, and jags, and toyotas, and saturns, and pontiacs, and infinitis, and chryslers, and cadillaccs, and saabs, and hummers, and flat beds, some even drive three wheeled cars, peugots, yamahas, ski doos, jet skis, pearson 26's and 27's, zeppelins, tom cats, spitfires, and more. Some wear hats, some dont like hats....some dont like the cat in the hat. Some like toast, and some like coffee, some like it hot, and some like it cold.....BUT THE SIMPLE FACT IS THESE COCKS EXIST......and we must eradicate them.....we must join together and eradicate them all. Destroy all the cocks in the world, join up as one and prevail against the evil cockiness that tries to bring us as a human species down....tries to humble our great wad of peoples. But we are strong dear friends.....we are strong we can overcometh. I hath admitted that I hath doneth wrong. YET I HATH OVERCOMETH!!!! JOIN ME MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS.......JOIN ME IN OVERCOMING THE COCKS OF THE WORLD. Heed my words dear peoples....heed them closely. FOR I GO TO IMMORTALITY......where goest thou? |

i will be the first to admit that some truckers are stupid, retarded, and all-around assholes. well maybe those are the ones i deal with regularly. i end up fixing the mistakes of trucker and 4-wheelers, oh and don't forget the 2-wheelers. i drive for a towing and recovery company based in massachusettes, you know MASSholes, and i see too many stupid people, i had some moron reading a news paper blow a red light as i was proceding through an intersection, then he cuts in front of me on a 2 lane highway going about 15 mph slower than me. truckers usually have more respect for my job, expecially when i'm loading a broken down vehicle on the side of the high way. they ACTUALLY MOVE OVER A LANE, i've almost been hit/killed by car than by trucks.
i will admit i've used the left (or 3rd) lane on major highways, for two reasons to avoid an accident with a car because they have no clue what ia around them, and 2nd to clean someones screwup. i've also lifted trucks off of cars because the driver of the car doesn't know what yeild means, and the truck is boxed in with a car on their lest and a car tailgating them.
the national highway commision put out some figures that are interesting: 73% of accidents involving trucks the car driver was a fault, and approximatly 25% of them the person driving the car fell asleep behind the wheel. so to make a long story short i've found that 80% of everyone driving on the road doesn't know how to drive. me personally i have NO respect for anyone who is just ignorant behind the wheel. when i drive i look out for my self and thats it, if it means that i have to cut someone off to avoid an accident then so be it, i'd rather be called a stupid truck driver than risk my job, my safety, or someone elses safety.
p.s. i'm sorry that you had to deal with that asshole truckdriver |

A wise man told me once that 90% of statistics are made up on the spot. Naturally if approximately 73% of drivers on the road were cars, then 73% of accidents would be the cars fault. As for you 80% statistic I would like to see how you came up with that. |

Not all truck drivers are bad drivers. And if it wasn't for truck drivers we wouldn't get food and other things from state to state. So maybe you should just chill out, and quit putting down truck drivers just because of one little incident. Because like I said not all truck drivers are bad drivers. My Step-Dad is a very good driver. So maybe you should just chill out. |

StU aRt was 100% right. Truckers are assholes. He did overlook one fact though. Everyone is an asshole when they drive. I'm a total asshole when I drive because I want to make it home alive and not get hit by some other asshole. Driving is an asshloe event. Being an asshole is a qualification. You wouldn't survive the DMV if it wasn't.

I have been a trucker for 20 years and yes there are some truckers who just got out of trucking school that still cant drive that well. But most bad drivers are 4 wheelers who either expect us to stop on a dime or stop to let them on the freeway ,which is not only impossible but stupid!!! the 4 wheelers need to stop rubbernecking also (some truckers ) . Not to get in our blinds spots so they wont get hit or at least learn where they are . O/O like myself at one point pay more than our share of road taxes you are right in general though we do stick together . As far as being in that toll booth are yoiu sure it was not you hittting the 18 wheeler ???? |

Easy now lad, your are caught up in a very emotional moment and are preaching things that are a bit rank. I am a driver and have been for 10 years. I have logged at 1000000 miles ( yes one million ) whith only one accident. The accident cost the life of a 21 yo lady. we were in ohio easing thru a mass of shifting lanes combined with quick entering on and off ramps. the speed limit was 50 mph and i was heading west with the morning sun on my back and in both my mirrors. she was running late for work and ran right thru the stop sign. i was in a cab over engin truck. the investigators stated that she was running in the excess of 70 mph and there were no signs that she attempted to stop until she hit the passenger front tire of my truck.
her little car some how got under my truck as i slammed into the K-rail. the tractor flipped but the trailer full of plastic xmas trees stayed upright. the amazing thing was she lived till they pealed the car away from her body, the crushed hulk of plastic and steel acted as a turniquet and held the blood in her body. she was awake and very alert till they pulled the windsheild frame off her. she admited she was in a hurry and figured i would slow down for her. I didn't even see her. like i said, i had the sun in my mirrors and her jeep was moving so fast in my blind spot. she is dead, her husband is a widower and her daughter has no mommy. her hubby tried to sue me and the company i was with but to no avail. PLEASE learn the lesson. give us room and time to stop, it takes a big truck 350 ft to stop at 55 mph keep this in mind the next time u jump infront of a truck just to keep from being detained for 3 minutes. is the news that interesting. is your spouce or boss so demanding that they would rather u die than be a minute or so late, hey better fired that dead, right?
Now, as for the trucker that bumped u, May he die of cyphilis alone lost in the desert with a cactus up his ass!!!!! |

How many miles do you drive a year. I drive over 100,000 a year.
We are taxed on the fuel the miles and in some states by the weight per mile. It's not like we are in your state for free.
AAA which has for a long time been anti-trucking did a study and found out most CARS are at fault.
If I am in a traffic jam I try to keep a following distance between the vehicle in front of me. The cars just fill in not even knowing how unsafe it is. I see someone on the side of the road I get over few cars do. The bright light deal is just stupid. I have 6 mirrors in my eyes so I can see the little cars and I still have huge blind spots. And with someone brite lighting me all I can see is dots how is that fun it it gets someone killed.
Here is a report on the AAA study.

Will Profit Impair Safety?
By Robert Lake
There’s one common theme running through the Shell Rotella Safety Crew Trucker of the Month profiles. While their individual philosophies and personalities differ, every one of them says they drive defensively around four-wheelers. Statistically it seems that’s a really good idea. It’s no surprise that the American Automobile Association is apparently infighting about some its own research that shows car drivers cause 70 percent of accidents involving big trucks.
For decades the AAA, as an advocate for motorists, has railed against truck drivers and supported laws to restrict their rights. The AAA has released dozens of studies critical of truckers.
At government safety forums, the AAA forms a triangle of safety authorities with CRASH and the insurance industry’s Institute of Highway Safety, groups that sometimes have biased motives. Now it seems, for all its millions poured into encouraging safe driving, the automobile association is — surprise — putting profit above public safety.
A recent article in USA Today detailed a deep rift between the AAA’s safety research arm and its business services units. According to officials inside the AAA and safety experts who have left it, the organization wants to squash the upcoming report about car drivers being the leading cause the car/truck accidents rather than offend its motoring members, the newspaper reported.
According to the article, tailgating, improper lane changes and fatigue — on the part of motorists — are leading contributors to wrecks with big trucks. But motorists, who make up the AAA membership, are afraid of big trucks, and former employees of the AAA said the group wants to avoid the troubling study.
The top brass at AAA deny the report of a rift and say the study on truck safety will be out this month. We hope so. It would go a long way to educating the public about safety. The AAA does a lot of good for safety and has for many years.
But the report is hardly surprising. Many public officials and safety groups target truckers in their safety campaigns — even though truckers are responsible for only 30 percent of the problem. They prey on the public fear of big trucks and put all their effort into passing laws that disrupt commerce but don’t reduce the number of wrecks between big rigs and cars.
If safety advocates and the U.S. government want to reach the goal of cutting fatal truck accidents in half by the year 2010, it’s clear they have to focus some — if not most — of their efforts on the cause of the majority of truck accidents — car drivers.

Bravo!!!! It's the plain truth! There are more idiots and assholes these days driving oversized suv's and little hybrides than there are bad truck drivers. I get the feeling that truckers are better and more aware of their surroundings on the road than most drivers. However, there is always going to be that retard behind the wheel of ANY rig, be it car/truck/18 wheeler that cuts you off. I say be aware of your surroundings and for God's sake, use your fucking seat belt. Thank you and have a safe and happy holiday season. |

I'm a truck driver. First of all, I'm business to change the reputation. Second of all, what pisses me off is ANYONE and I don't care WHO YOU ARE, that think they own the road. Lastly, cops should stop ANYONE, don't care who it is, who don't follow the rules properly. THat means, those who go so damn slow, so damn fast, road-ragers.... 18 wheelers that think they're king shit... i dunno but that's my honest opnion. And for that trucker that rammed you in the ass, well, he should have his genitals exposed to the air.

I say that 4-wheelers should be subject to the same rules as truck-drivers, by being bound with logbooks, random DOT inspections, random drug tests... It would be a good idea but no one would support it because 40% of the nation WOULD have their license pulled out for some legal reason... |

ok first off i am the wife of a trucker and i am sick and tired of hearing 4 wheelers crying about the big bad trucker. get over it, i use to think the same way about them, then i "walked a mile in their shoes" i have rode with my husband several times and i find it amazing how many drivers of cars and small trucks think that they rule the road or that a truck can stop on a dime. ok think about this the next time you want to pull out and slow down infront of a truck going highway speeds, ok you weigh like what 13 thousand pounds, ok he can weigh up to 80 thousand and it takes over a half a mile for them to stop sometimes, so think about that the next time you want to be stupid and see how mad you can make the driver. and for the person who likes to umm put the brights on at night, well are you just stupid or what, number one cops dont do that to drivers because it can and does cause major accidents, that blinds the driver to where he cant see, incase makeing him hit someone or run off the road, either way not good. so think about that the next time you want to do something stupid. WHY DONT YOU JUST DRIVE CURRECTLY AND SO WILL MOST DRIVERS, most (not all) drivers will show you the respect you show them. dont hate truckers because it is like 4 wheelers, it aint the car or trucks fault it is the idiot driving, and just think about this that driver in that truck could just as easily been in his car, so it wasnt the truck it was that guy. and another major problem is how fast these so called driving school cranks out new drivers, they dont even know how to drive a car good yet and you let them drive something that weighs like 80000 lbs. yeah really smart NOT
that is how i see it. now doesnt that make more sense then showing how ignorant we are. think about it. stay safe |

I have a Solution for all that's going down here. Why is it that the Truckers get all the Training, and the the 4 wheelers don't. This is a good Question to ask the Department of Safety, and the DOT! If we all took the writen Test that all Truckers take, then there'd be no excuse. You either pass the Writen Test, along with the Standard Test for an Automobile, or you FLUNK. ALSO, you get this TEST 3 TIMES, like your regular Standard one, but if you don't pass it, you FLUNK!. Granted, the chances for someone forgeting, is obvious too say the least, but it would Definitely be a PLUS, and an EYE OPENER! The fact that there are alot more Trucks, and whatever out there, makes perfect sense if you ask me. Yes, I drive a 4 Wheeler, and I have a Class A License as well. Some of you Truck Drivers are Probably wondering why I drive a 4 Wheeler, over a Rig. The answer is, is that I didn't make the Grade. I got the License, but I wasn't good enough too drive one. Maybe in time, but I'm 54 yrs. old, and who'd even consider Hiring me? I've read ever single thing here on this board, and I'm in agreement with everything here. So what's the solution here. Do you keep Bitching at each other, or make a positive move. None of us are perfect you know. We ALL MAKE MISTAKES, and some really bad ones at that, but if you aren't educated in the Basics of a Tractor Trailor, and in just an Automobile, then you just may end up dead, if you don't watch it. Keep this in Mind, when you're faced with a TRUCK in front of you, and want too pass.Stay out of his NO ZONE, somewhere in between the MIDWAY OF HIS TRAILOR, and HIS PASSENGER DOOR, I WOULD THINK. And those Drivers that think that THE BRIGHTS ARE GOING TOO DO ANYTHING, let me say this once, You're only adding to your Frustration, as well as to the TRUCKERS! Give these Guys the respect that they've earned, and you'll recieve it back in kindness. |

Ok first of all ALL TRUCK DRIVERS are not like that! So you need to get that out of your head. I know people that are truckers and they work just as hard as the reast of us. YES i will admit some are like you said but that don't mean that you have to say "truckers are the scum of the earth". That's just RUDE! Also if you stop to think if there was no truckers how in the heck would you get FOOD,CLOTHES and all the other stuff you have in life to make it??? Also sometime people that are not truckers can be just as bad or sometimes worse. I mean sometime you will see a 4 wheeler aka car get into a truckers blindspot and the trucker can't see them or get in front of a trucker and just stop for no reason. THATS STUPID! So it's not right that you would say what you said and just put all truckers into the same place like you did. Im sorry just wanted to say my piece!!! |
