audioslave
Has anyone listened to this yet? What do you think? I didn't really like Chris Cornell's solo stuff but I always liked RATM...

So xach, does that mean you like, or dislike, audioslave?
posted by Cody Phipps on Dec 08, 2002 10:15PM

Ive oly heard the song on the radio, and I like it alot. But thats just the song on the radio, there's of course the rest of the album...

I have never heard Audioslave. I heard it came out recently...I like the concept, though. I was wondering if the reality was as good as the concept.

The one song I heard is really cool. Not to difficult, good groove, gets the point across loud and clear. If the rest of the album is as good, then they're a decent band.
Do they stack up to their predecessors? Apples and oranges.

Apples and oranges, but the whole fucking disc rocks. There's a song called "Like A Stone", that I hear might be their next single, and it's bad-ass. I mean we're talking about 2 very definitive sounds coming together here... And it sounds great. Oh, and Tom Morello never fails to blow my mind. Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

AudioSlave Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! listen to the shit from the 60's and 70's man like Floyd and the Grateful Dead music now sucks but there is one exception PHLUX and that is the only exception to the rule of music

Audioslave is a collaboration of very experienced early 90s musicians. It is rare, especially today, to have such a band. Chris Cornell is an amazing individual, from his work in bands such as soundgarden and Temple of the Dog he has definatly shown his talent. I think Audioslave deserves a great deal of credit for pulling this Album off in the midst of a musical time that isn't in their favor. They have definatly helped restore a bit of faith in my mind into todays music.... perhaps there still is hope..

I don't think "Ron Small" is correct in saying what he said. Because I've heard the Grateful Dead's stuff.. And I even went so far as to listen to some of their live stuff. And it fucking SUCKED. You can't bad-mouth Audioslave and bring an even shittier band up as an example of "good" music. The guys in the Grateful Dead were so fucking twisted on drugs they didn't even know what in the blue fuck they were playing most of the time.

ummmm i think Chris Cornell is gorgeous...... that's all i have to say. lol

Back in the day the Dead were the highest grossing band in America. Nuff said.

I dont agree with anything anybody says 'cause I think its all stupid. The only thing right is what I think, and aint no one gonna tell me different. 'Cause when they do, Im gonna flip out and tell em how wrong they are! And then they're gonna flip out and tell me how wrong I am. But I know I aint wrong! The doofus im talkin to is wrong damnit! Opinions may be like ass holes, but mine dont stink as much as yours! I think we can all agree that we dont agree with anyone elses point of view unless theirs agrees with ours. I mean shit its not like we're debating that the letter "A" is the first letter in the english alphabet here. We're talkin about art....one mans trash is another mans monet. So suck it up and enjoy the different opinions out there, otherwise the world will be josey cary, and then how special will josey cary be?

That was dead on, man.

Audioslave is cool. Yep.
posted by Cody Phipps on Apr 22, 2003 01:42PM

I heard a bit of the album when it first came out and even though it is not exactly the kind of music i normally listen to it is alright. That is a complement. As far as the concept of Audioslave, correct me if I am wrong but their are bands all over that are doing the same thing. To name a few Oysterhead, Garage A Trois, The Word, Vida Blue, and Gov't Mule. My guess is that many of you haven't heard of these bands since you think its a new concept. Not to insult any of you but check them out they got some good music. Rock on Audioslave for picking up on the concept.

Or you could go back to Cream, the Yardbirds, Travelling Wilburys, Weather Report, Parliment Funkadelic, etc...

Think about this a little Josey

"Picture a bright blue ball just spinning spinning free
Dizzy with eternity
Painted with a skin of sky, brush in some clouds and sea
Call it home to you and me
A peaceful place or so it looks from space
A closer look reveals the human race
Full of hope full of grace is the human face
But afraid we may lay our home to waste"

Tangent: J.P. Barlow, the lyricist/author, wasn't actually "in" the Dead, was he?
posted by Clint Phipps on Apr 25, 2003 02:58PM

I would consider Barlow a member of the Dead along with Robert Hunter (Jerry's callaborator). The lyricist/musician relationship is very close and personal, as it has been in many other generes. For example Marshall (Trey's Lyricist) and Chris Kuroda (Lighting director for Phish) are considered the fifth and sixth members of Phish. This can be seen all over history. Musicians don't sing words that they don't believe in and their lyricists are writing these pieces for this one purpose. They are all part of the band.

Yep. You got me.

I still haven't gotten a chance to listen to an album but everything I've heard on the radio from audioslave sounds pretty bland. Hard to believe that if you take parts of soundgarden and parts of rage you would get two parts boring, but that's the way it worked out...shitty.
