When I heard heard it I thought it was an AFD joke. It's kinda sad, but I think they were about dead anyway. On this last tour I saw them in a goddamn bar. Not that I didn't love the show, but come on, they used to play arenas and auditoriums, and now a bar? If they stayed together, next tour they'd be opening for Phlux.

I have to disagree. Metallica IS James and Lars. Dave was just a hired gun, who wrote songs (lyrics) SO shitty, that they threw him out of the band... That wasn't the ONLY reason he was thrown out, but it's a big one... And anyway, Metallica didn't even get anywhere until after Dave was out. When they got Kirk, that's when they went somewhere.

You missed what I said too, so we're even. Dave was a member of Metallica in its early days and therefore had significant influence in shaping the sound of Metallica. That's the way bands work. You can give Dave credit for helping to form the initial sound of Metallica, the sound that attracted the labels in the first place. And you can note that Kirk came along after that sound had emerged. (And personally I think that Cliff Burton had a lot more to do with Metallica's success and evolution than Kirk Hammet ever did... but then I'm biased.) Wherever it went from there, obviously didn't have much to do with Dave, but it's unfair to say that Megadeth is "a Metallica cover band." The fact that Metallica got all successful certainly doesn't detract from the fact that Dave got all successful too. Dave did it without the rest of Metallica.

Dave Mustaine was more than just a hired gun for metallica. Dave wrote some of Metallicas best songs, Call of Ktulu, (revised to Megadeths song hangar 18) the four horsemen (Mecanix) Etc. Dave asked the band, after they kicked him out, not to play his music and not to use it in their CD's. Metallica being the poite individuals decided to fucking rub it in his face and play Dave's songs with the symphony, and of course they sounded good because Dave Mustaine wrote them. Did Dave win any award for writing the song that won an award? hmm if you ask me Metallica, especially that little bitch lars, is a stupid ass band. I mean shit, James wont let Kirk play rhythm when they're recording an album because he "wants it to be perfect", what an asshole. and what is with lars suing Victoria Secret?? who the fuck in their right mind would sue them? Who cares if they have a color named Metallic or Metallica, Just leave it be you damn pussy.

**Metallica fan** Ok first of all, When Dave Mustaine sings, he sounds like he's straining to take a shit. Have you seen him in concert? stupid guy sounds like he's talking half the time. Sure Dave wrote riffs for metallica in their first 2 albums, but the transition between RTL and MP is very very different. The music on master of puppets is muuuuch better. why? not because of mustaine, but because of possibly the greatest bass player in metal history, Cliff Burton. He wrote most of their songs. Cliff Burton was born with music in his heart n soul. Mustaine is sooo jealous of Metallica's success, so what does he do? Kirk Hammett Can shred like nobodys business. Kirk Hammetts solos are very different, in terms of style. he plays blues, and classic rock. He thinks outside the box and has more people influence him in different kinds of music. Not like Dave mustaines one track mind.(although I loved 'call of ktulu') Kirk Hammett Is a God among Lead Guitarists. Mustaine is like the dirt on Hammett's fingernails. The point I was trying to make with the Sabatoging of the bus was that Dave Mustaine was jealous of Metallica's success and lost his damn mind. Also, the fact that if Cliff Burton was still alive, you could imagine how much better Metallica could have been. Cliff Burton, i think is in the top 5 best bassists (dave efeelll---what?) and metallica could've reeked the benefits of playing with Cliff. Just to bring up one example, Master of Puppets. Most of the songs were written by Cliff and its arguably their best album ever. CLIFF KIRK JAMES LARS!

mmmm,.. I laugh my ass off. Ok, some good debating here. Dave Mustaine cannot "sing" worth shit, but his voice is at least original/ distinct. James ( ass fucker he is) was a great rhythm guitarists whos "singing" abilities took a shit on Dave, but Daves guitaring kicked James ass. Everyone who actually listens to Metallica AND Megadeth relatively equally know that Megadeth is generally better. Kirk and Dave are a tough match when it comes to lead, but dave takes the cake. Kirk just does his stupid tricks over and over, he is sooo limited, while mustaine seems very straind while he is kicking solo ass. oh, to mention, every other megadeth guitarist was at least 2 times better than kirk. Poland whipped kirks ass in technique AND speed, Marty could beet kirk any day of the week, and pitrelli is almost as good as marty. If you want to argue whether Kirk is better than Mustaine, then you must really fuckin hate mustaine. almost all metallica solos sound generally the same, but u cannot say the same about megadeth. I see Megadeth as the colder and faster version of metallica, but generally better. As bassists go, Cliff takes the cake, but come on, Ellefson is sooo underrated, he IS good. Drums, megadeth takes the cake by a landslide. You cant say that Megadeth sounds like a cover band of Metallica, cuz they really sound a lot fuckin different. Rust in Peace is my personal fav album, and then probably Master of Puppets. They are 2 completely different bands. Dave was NOT Metallica, and James WAS Metallica ( after Cliff). if you just have a strong hate for Megadeth, maybe you should actually try to listen to them, it took me a while to actually understand how they were better, but i am sure why they are better. Dave also did not write Metallicas best songs, Ride the lightening was an awesome song though. To be quite honest, I agree with some of the above statements... However I have seen both metallica and megadeth numerious times on numerious tours and Metallica's show TRUMPS a Megadeth show anyday. The three times I've seen Megadeth, the guys in the band played... just played. There weren't any stage antics that we all love during live performances. They just ripped the shyte out of their set, had some cool lights, and went home. Now each of the times I've seen Metallica, the show has been dramatically different. They are showmen. No doubt about it. They keep it interesting for the crowd. That,I cannot say about Megadeth. I love them both, but in terms of a live show, Metallica takes the cake. End of story.

Why don't you all calm down? I mean, let's face it: there are many players that are basically unknown to the general public that are as good as - and in many cases, much better than - both of the aforementioned guitarists, stylistically, technically, esssentially any way you look at the art of playing guitar. In my humble opinion, both of these guys have mastered the guitar to the point of making millions of dollars throughout their careers, playing thousands of sold out arena shows for millions of fans, and selling millions upon millions of albums to boot. Yet, as I said, there's a very long list of better guitarists out there, and I should hope that every one of you who have posted or read this can think of at least a few. If you can't, you probably should do yourselves a favor and enhance your record collections and your ears with some new music; go out and pick up some music from other genres, you may find other ways to look at the art of playing guitar by listening to exotic and wonderful things, and have fun at the same time! Who knows, maybe you'll find some Ravi Shankar of guitar (an amazing sitarist, for those who don't know), and learn new things along the way.

Ok, METAL fan here.......dunno about everyone else. METALLICA vs. MEGADETH. Lets analize. Metallica,originally thrash, now just heavy metal, although the music has changed(not for the best) still has an edge and delivers the goods at their shows and Megadeth, yet another thrash band that started a little while after Dave was kicked out of Metallica. Good band but Countdown to exctinction basically began the Countdown to exctinction. Good album, everything prior too, but everything after faded. I love both Bands. The comment Megadeth is generally better is a load of crap. I love Megadeth but there music just doesnt Grab me the way Metallicas does. I will admit, Mustaine is better than Hammet(tho there are far better lead player....listen to Pantera, or Children of Bodem). But when it comes to the dirty, gritty, chuggin, and down right BRUTAL metal rythms. James has it on Dave by a long shot. I would also like to get into the statements about DAVE WRITING TALLICA SONGS. LETS KEEP IN MIND!!! The band as a whole wrote the songs together. Dont give him all the credit. There is no Metallica song NOT ONE that is COMPLETELY written by Mustaine. ON MOST METALLICA SONGS JAMES IS THE ONE WHO PROLLY WRITES HALF THE MATERIAL!!! We all know how much of an asshole he is about what Metallica does. People claiming Mustain single handedly wrote the songs BULLSHIT. Metallica wouldnt keep something 100 percent Mustaine. They just leave in some of the shit that Mustaine brought to the table(1All leads on KEA with a few rythms and melodies2 same as RTL but not as much lead, hammett put some in,3 and on Puppets, the main riff of Leper Messiah). Beyond those small parts Dave was erased from Metallica. Metallica has changed its compostion a few times. At its best James, Lars, Cliff, Hammet; its worst with jason. I like rob. Megadeths has changed a lil but the main piece of megadeth isnt the other memebers, its just Dave....in my POV. Dave is one of a kind. Not much of a singer, nor is James(although he can sing way better than Dave), but one of Metal's best. I treasure Peace Sells, Rust in Peice, and Killing is my Business......thanks DAVE. im a long time megadeth fan and they are about to come out with a new alboum. its diff but still, it's megadeth. rust in peace is a greate album, way better then any metallica ever.(and to fast for metallica to play) haha but still give dave credit for being a greate guitar player and if u dont believe me bye a megadeth album. and stop giving dave shit for being kicked out of metallica because he is way better then james or kirk so just fuck u idiots who tink diff. i am a big metallica fan don't get me wrong. but megadeth is the best band ever.

I agree with gevork!!! I really didn't no there were people like him!!! Mustaine????come on,he cant sing,did u ever heard the guy!!! makes me wanna jump in front of a car!. And when it comes to solos, nobody playes better than kirk hammett!!!!!NOBODY!!!!!! he is just born to play men!!! metallica is still good, they are trying new stuff u know!!! they are experimenting!!! u cant say that about megadeth, they just keep boring us with the same shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And when it comes to james, HE IS NOT AN ASSHOLE!!!!!! god did anyone ever met the guy?, how can u judge people if u dont know what he is like. u just go along with other people, thats what makes me sick!!. I mean listen to the music, its really good u know. metallica did a great job kicking mustaine out!! cos they would be nowhere with him right know!! and its true, kirk made them what they are today!!! A great succesfull metalband. first i didn't like st. anger, but if u listen more than once, u hear some pretty good stuff!! its not exactly metallica style, but its GOOD!!. I hope they put some solos on the next album!!It just pisses me off how everyone talks about metallica. ADvise, read their interviews, listen to the music, go see their new movie SKOM. and try to win a meet and greet or something, i dont know. cos thats the only way ur going to see a little bit of how metallica really is!!!! they are just human u know, like us!!! dont judge people of what u hear from someone else!!!!!!!

I think Megadeth have aged better than metallica, contrary to a lot of peoples opinons. It has been mentioned on here that metallica is a "fad" band and do a lot of conforming to present musical trends. I agree with that to a certain extent, but at the same time, look at it this way; Everyone expects tallica to play a solo on a song, aqnd before st anger this was certainly true. Ok; so maybe not a master of puppets kind of solo, since hammets solos have been toned down in recent years, but at least A solo. Does no-one think that omitting solos entirely from st anger was a bit daring, especially from a band that initiated the meaning of a furiously fast thrash solo? I dunno, personally i dont think it worked because instead of not doing any solos, they created instead an awful album. Basically, anything past their 1991 release i consider to be pretty piss poor because I think past this date, metallica's musical soul was sacrificed for money. Im not saying Megadeth are excused because they tried exactly the same thing as their cousins, and what was worse for them was that from 1994 onwards they were a commercial flop. Im glad to see Megadeth back, theyre one of the only traditional metal bands that are still talked about with enthusiasm and have a lot of credit. And by the way, if you want to hear a real guitarist, listen to the band FREAK KITCHEN, or Dream Theater's John Petrucci. They both piss over any metallica or megadeth lead guitarist.

(MUSTAINE) my name is Andy im a big fan of metallica and megadeth n I think its stupid to diss one or another I mean theyre brother metallica got some more melodik harmonie megadeth got more thecnikale riff on the solo they both kick ass for those who were dissing kirk well megadave im self as said that I was one of the best as a guitar player that play ¾ of metallica song with solo n maybe ½ of megadeth including holywars (solo include ) hangare 18 (solo include) I woud say that on the thecnikale aspect of megadeth espasialy rust in peace the riff are better u can say that they got an edge on the complexitie but they still on the same range.Metallica riff or more loud n slower but theyv got some fuking thecnikale riff as tuff as rust in peace sometimes.For the solo kirk is my man but damn they both kicking ass wat I like better about kirk is the fact that he can play the hardest speed solo as he can play a soft classical solo . So in the complexity of the riff megadeth got an edge but on the melodike approach metallica got an edge man u cant diss those bands u cant say dave is good kirk is bad even dave think kirk is amazing lol anyway every one got there opinion but u cant judge by it when its time to judge the skills of one or another dave is a god kirk is a god as every other band member of these 2 band if ur dissing kirk hability or saying that dave is better ur an idiot if you saying that kirk is a god n not dave ur an idiot 2 they both the same thing com on guyz peace

come on people, their both GREAT bands. Metallica is probaly the easier band to like just because at first they come off as being that good combo of tough and fast. I've spent alotta years listening to metallica probaly more than mega. What im starting to realize is that i think i like mega a little more. I takes a finely tuned ear to honestly say that you like megadeth more. They just sound more involved, more intricate. Ya dave doesnt have that loud crisp voice that James is so proud of but pound for pound daves voice is more versitial and unique- i love it. NOTHING NEEDS TO BE SAID ABOUT HIS GUITAR SKILL EITHER-NOTHING.I start many friday night parties by playing Sweating bullets and Train of consequences. As for that comment about dave's singing and solo ability, listen to my MY LAST WORD (peace album) mostly the inrto of the song. It doensn't even sound like mega. Bummed to hear mega's done but hey, nothing lasts 4ever. I heard dave O.D.'d and was actually pronounced dead for a short time. If he's still kikn ass after that, than that really shows some fukin character. Megadeth just kiks ass. A TASTE THAT BLOWS MY MIND!

Mustaine won't quit, nor would Hetfield, what else would they do? The have all come through one addiction ar another, Mustaine came through a career ending injury! They will both take a step back, look at their current direction and fans forums / press feedback, Mustaine will release another RIP and Hetfield another Justice, in and ideal world! To all you donkeys on this forum, you know who you are, grow up and stop lowering the tone. Know one wants to hear all that, you sound like an urchin from a dockside detention centre, your only 18 as well, listen to all the albums and stop parroting what your older brother's mates tell ya.......Dohnut.
