body art
Who here has body art, what is it of, what is the most idiotic tattoo you have ever seen, what is the best...?
And who here has the most?
And can you show me proof?

Hey Amity,

I have three tattoos. One of which I had in college is a sun with thorny vines twisting through it (on my thigh). The second one is a self-designed tribal rose (on my lower back). The final is a self-designed Chinese symbol for strength with my friend's initials added.
As far as idiotic tattoos, I have seen so many poorly done tattoos because people aren't smart enough to research the artist before getting inked. Also I am so against getting cartoon characters or sports logos (here is a hint of people looking at getting a tattoo-artists don't like doing them either.)
The best ones are the original designs done by really good artists. I have seen so many that picking one would be difficult.
I would show you proof if I had pictures, but seening as though you know me I am sure that you will take my word.

So why are you asking???

Gettin' a tattoo, yeah. Gettin' ink done.
Asked for a '13' but they drew a '31'...

I'll be gettin one some day when ive found something origional OR found the time to design something origional myself. However I think I can put in a word for having seen some terrible tats! There was this one kid in high school who had dislexia (not sure of the spelling there, and though that part doesn't affect "who" a person is, you'll see the significance in a second) and decided he was not only going to design, on the fly, his tatoo, but he was also going to ink it himself whilst watching in the mirror. Now, no offense, but doing it himself in the mirror, looking at it backwards, with dislexia...needless to say it came out less than average. To top it off, his personally designed body art was that of a question mark. Hooray for creativity!

So, I guess the moral of the story is that dyslexic self-inkers who use mirrors (make that smoke and mirrors, and heavy on the smoke) should confine themselves to palindromes....
posted by sam aritan on Feb 13, 2002 11:53AM

Yes, I daresay a palindrome would be easier for a dyslexic with smoke and/or mirrors to spell correctly. But the real question in the case is, would he spell it upside down?

What if he was color blind?

I have a friend who used india ink and a sewing needle to tattoo a flower on her knee when she was drunk. The flower moves when she bends her knee. I thought it was kind of weird.

My Dad won't let me get a tattoo. It's the only thing he says no to. But if I did get one anyway it would be tiny and secret, only for certain eyes...

The worst tattoos I have seen have been the home-made kind. Especially anything drug related seems to irk me as it makes you a walking billboard and people tend to judge you (I know the blunt tats I have seen make me think, ok, don't want to be in a car with him at the wheel, or whatever). Then there's the cliches after the tattoo craze hit my generation, the roses, the dolphins, the yin yangs. I fell somewhat prey to that when I got my first tattoo. I was 18 and in Paris with my friend Christie. We went to a shop we found in the phonebook. The owner was at a convention but his apprentice was willing to do the work. I got a chinese character that has sort of faded and needs work.
Just last week I got #2 above the biker bar in Leesburg. I designed it myself and it has religious significance. It's a dove with an olive branch. It's the size of a nickel, more or less. I got it to mark my 25th birthday.
Personally, getting a tattoo is somewhat addictive. I really want to get a bracelet of flowers, but that's in the future when I have more confidence in displaying my tattoos.

My grandmother worked in the operating room and told me of different tats that she's seen. One guy came in with a gazillion tattoos and he asked if they could try to not ruin any. They agreed and when he was on the table, they saw that down his stomach, he hada tattooof a zipper. So they just cut right along that and sewed it back up...just like a zipper.

There's also a coast guard guy here who has a Spongebob tattoo and a Scooby Doo tattoo...among a few other. Hooray for cool guitar playin coast guard guys with cartoon tattoos!

Hey i agree that everyone should research an artist and the parlor before getting inked. I think it's one of the most important things when it comes to getting a tat.
I always watch the artists (all of them) in a parlor for at least a week before getting inked there.
I have 4 tat's now an am planning my fifth for next april.
I design all of my tats and never let the artist or parlor keep pictures or design copies.
I think the worst tat i've ever seen done, was actually my own design. The design was good, but the workmanship of the inker was poor to say the least. It was a design i did for a friend and he went without me to get it done. He actually let the parlor take things out of my design to make room is what they said. BS is what I said.
The best one done Was a freind of mine in CA had a sick (I mean really gross)tat of skulls with maggots done on his calf. I would never get the tat myself but the workmanship was excellent. I got all my tat's from there when I was in cali.
yes I can prove my tat's and designs just e-mail me and i'll send u some pics.
If anyone need fresh new designs for tat's just e-mail me and maybe we can work something out.

If I ever got a tatoo, I'd get it professionally done, shop around for an artist I thought was the best, and it would be a tatoo that would be of personal importance to me, probably about music, my band, or my family.

um. i never got a professional tatoo. i'm only 16, so i can't get one legally, but i put one on myself on my arm. it's ABM, my ex's, amanda's initials. now i can't get ridda the damn thing, lol.
btw, i carved and "f" standing for "folk"... does that count as body art, or self-mutilation?

Stu, please don't get the word "origional" tattooed, unless you look it up first :-p I belive it's original

i'm going to soon get a professional tattoo of the band cold's symbol (the spider) in dedication of them coming to our town aug. 18th (though i may not be able to go see them since our bands recording our first demo) and plus the fact that they're my fav. band. i'm gonna see if they can do anything to get my ex's innitials off my arm. i want the tatto either above, below, or right next to the "f" i carved in my arm a few weeks back.

I'm getting a tattoo. I know what I want. Matter of where to put it. And when I get over my overwhelming fear of needles.

the most idiotic tat i've ever seen is some chick that got cardboard boxes tattooed on her wrists (WTF?) or it could be the steer skull my dad has on his bicep. \... and the best would have to be my friend ian's... he's got all the original lucky charms marshmallows on his arm.

i just got a tattooed slapped on me the other day. the "f" i carved in my arm, i got tattooed over. it's... another... f... but it looks sweet. it's got thorns coming out of it, it's basicly almost cryptic like.made me really drowzy though cause i lost alot of blood when i got it put on. i definately have to take a picture of this to show you guys, and to put on the FaYceLess website.
